PROJECT 2: i) First part - code the Feautrier solver for a true formal solution (source function fully known) - code one of the 1-st order schemes (short characteristics or DFE) - formalism is described in detail in Chap 12. (to be found at http://aegis.as.arizona.edu/~hubeny/SA3) - take a test case, for instance that presented at the end of Sect. 12.4, with a simple source function that allows for an analytical solution (eq. 12.170), and test the accuracy of the method on the number of depths (as done in 12.4), and also on the angle mu. ii) Second part. - code the Feautrier scheme for a solution of the coherent scattering problem, with the Variable Eddington Factors scheme - described in Chap. 12. (section 12.5). For detailed explicit expressions of teh matrix elements, refer to the attached document (vef.pdf). The papers are due, and the short 10 minute presentations of the group representatives will be held, on Tuesday, Nov 3.
